Pastor John Wright was raised in southern WV, educated at Virginia Tech, and employed at Naval Surface Warfare Center for 36 years, retiring in 2017. John and his wife Kay raised three daughters on a farm in King George County, where he was an active member of Dahlgren United Methodist Church until coming here in 2017.
John is very energetic and has been active in the UMC’s Volunteers in Missions program (in VA, NC, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Florida and Alaska), prison ministry, and the Epiphany program for juveniles. He is now quite active in practically everything at Fairfields, from the choir to strenuous men’s activities.
In 2010 John was led to enter the ministry. He enrolled at Asbury Theological Seminary and is pursuing a Master’s of Divinity degree. In 2017 he was licensed as a Local Pastor and appointed to serve the Northumberland Charge (Fairfields and Afton churches).
A warm and caring man with a sense of humor, well-schooled in the Bible and Methodism, John has won our hearts. When God calls, he humbly responds, and inspires us to follow.
Kay earned a BS in Economics and Mathematics at Mary Washington University and completed post graduate work at Virginia Tech. Kay is employed at Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, where she returned to work after homeschooling their three girls.
She is active and involved, worked with John in the prison ministry and other callings, and gets engaged here despite continuing her career in Dalhgren. Her insights, smile and kind words make her a delightful addition to the congregation.
